Famed Polish union leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Lech Walesa, speaking in front of a room of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, called for a secular version of the Ten Commandments to underpin universal values. This may seem strange, given that Walesa is a well-known Catholic, and indeed he went on to say, "We need to agree on common values for all religions as soon as possible, a kind of secular Ten Commandments on which we will build the world of tomorrow..." A list of values common to all religions doesn't sound like the most secular thing in the world, but perhaps admitting that the ethical values of all religions can be put under the umbrella of secularism is a step in the right direction.
