Humanist TV

by Joe Beck

The following article is from the Secular Humanist Bulletin, Volume 16, Number 4.

"The Humanist Perspective" is a half-hour weekly television program produced by the Council for Secular Humanism at the Center for Inquiry-International in Amherst, New York, and carried by 13 television stations nationwide. Tom Flynn, editor of Free Inquiry and coordinator of the Council's First Amendment Task Force, handles the technical end of the operation, while Joe Beck, C.S.W. and director of Humanist Counseling, Celebrations, and Services at the Center, moderates.

The program features interviews with leading humanists discussing often controversial topics. They include a Who's Who of contemporary humanism, including Richard Dawkins (author, lecturer, and Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University), Norm Allen (director of African-Americans for Humanism), and Paul Kurtz.

Some 100 "Humanist Perspective" programs have been taped and are available for public-access cable channels. Contact Joe Beck at (716) 636-7571 ext. 222 to learn how to get the program on in your area.
