Secular Organizations for Sobriety (SOS) is gaining recognition at the very highest levels in Britain. SOS founder Jim Christopher recently received a letter of commendation from the office of Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair, and he has been invited to address a Parliamentary seminar. Christopher will speak to the House of Parliament's "Alcohol and Drugs Misuse Committee" on November 6, 1998, on preventative education about drink and drugs for adolescents.
SOS is a project of the Council for Secular Humanism. It provides a secular alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous and other Twelve Step Programs that require recognition of a "Higher Power." SOS - which is now headquartered at the Center for Inquiry West in Los Angeles - maintains thousands of local self-help groups throughout America and the world.
