The Nigerian Humanist Movement is striving to make humanism relevant to ordinary Africans. The group has recently started an excellent newsletter, Humanist Concern (March, 1998). The first issue takes a strong stand against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM - sometimes euphemistically called "female circumcision"). The Nigerian Humanist Movement has also produced an educational pamphlet against FGM. They are working closely with Nigeria's Association for Reproductive and Family Health (AFRH) in this long overdue campaign to stop the mutilation of women.
