Humanist Resource List

by Joe Beck

The following article is from the Secular Humanist Bulletin, Volume 18, Number 2.

Some time ago I wrote an article about the value of having humanist celebrants, counselors, and other professionals available to meet the needs of fellow humanists (SHB, Winter 1999/00). Whether it’s having someone officiate at a wedding, visit patients in the hospital, help one deal with the various stresses of daily life, or provide services in other areas, it’s comforting for humanists to know that they are dealing with someone who shares their life stance.

In response to my article, a variety of humanists have either volunteered to be available to provide services to fellow humanists or have inquired about the availability of humanist service providers in their area. The providers are listed below.

Due to my primitive computer skills, I may have deleted the names of some of the individuals who have offered their services. If that describes you, or if you are interested in being listed as a humanist provider, please send me information regarding: your geographic area, the services you offer, your credentials, how people can contact you, fees, etc. I also will welcome calls from anyone seeking a humanist provider of services.

Please be advised that listing someone as a provider of a service does not entail or imply the Council’s endorsement of their services. We do not certify anyone's competence and encourage those seeking services to use their critical analytical skills in determining whom to contact, what credentials to verify, and what to pay.  We are simply acting as an information clearinghouse where people who describe themselves as humanist service providers can be contacted by humanists seeking that service.

For a list of secular celebrants in eleven states who provide nonreligious weddings, memorials, and other ceremonies go to http://www.secularhumanism.org/celebrants/index.htm,  or call me, Joe Beck, at (716) 636-7571 ext. 222.

With the formalities out of the way, it is my pleasure to share with you the following list of humanist providers.
