Brochures Tell Ingersoll's Story

The Robert Green Ingersoll Birthplace Museum has published a set of five informative brochures designed to give Museum visitors the most important facts on Ingersoll - in a form that can continue to educate and entertain long after they've left the Museum.

The brochures present information drawn from the Museum's own interior signage and other sources. They are printed on stiff white cardstock for good looks and long wear. Topics include:

Birth & Youth of Robert Green Ingersoll
Ingersoll's origin story: from from his birth in Dresden to his mother's death, his family's wanderings, his discovery of Robert Burns, and his legal apprenticeships in Peoria.
Who Was Robert Green Ingersoll?
Capsule introduction to “the most remarkable American most people never heard of,” his life and times, his achievements, and his importance.
Robert G. Ingersoll and the Civil War
The story of “Colonel Bob” continues: Ingersoll raises a regiment, fights in western Tennessee and northern Mississippi, is captured by the south, paroled ... and captures the public eye as the most effective public speaker in support of the Northern cause.
Ingersoll's Homes ... and Restoring His Birthplace
Describes the homes where Ingersoll resided during his public life - none of which survives today - then sketches the history of the Birthplace, its three 20th-century rehabilitations as an Ingersoll memorial, and details of the 1987-1993 restoration by the Council for Secular Humanism.
Early Settlement of Dresden and Environs
Local history of the region between Keuka and Seneca Lakes where Dresden is located.

Can't make it to the museum? A set of five brochures is available by mail for $3.50. Ordering information is available here.

Concept for the brochure series was by Dixie Jokinen. Production of the brochure series was funded by the James Hervey Johnson Charitable Educational Trust.
